“5 Home Remedies for Sebaceous Cyst!”

A sebaceous cyst is also known as an epidermoid cyst. Basically, it is a bump that starts to form underneath the skin. This type of cyst begins when the sebaceous glands become blocked by keratin protein. Before long, the cyst starts to fill with a yellow liquid. They can happen on nearly any part of the body and can be caused by a number of different things. Luckily, there are a number of natural remedies that can help to treat these cysts.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

One of the easiest home remedies for sebaceous cyst is apple cider vinegar. This home remedy is made up of acetic acid. This acid is able to kill off the bacteria while treating the cyst. To use apple cider vinegar, you just have to apply it directly to the cyst. Then, cover the treated area with a bandage.

This bandage should be changed on a daily basis. Continue the treatment for a week until the cyst starts to develop a hard layer. Gently take off this hard layer so that the contents of the cyst start to drain. Then, clean the area with a dry washcloth. Within the next three to four days, new skin should start to grow on the affected spot.

2. Turmeric

There are a number of natural remedies that use turmeric. This healing spice helps to purify the blood, cure a cyst and improve the digestion. One way to use turmeric is by blending half a teaspoon into a cup of milk. Then, drink this mixture for the next 10 days or longer until the cyst disappears.

Another way to use this herb is by applying it topically. Known for its healing properties, turmeric can help break apart the cyst.

It is known for being used in poultices that help to reduce pain and inflammation.

  • Take some turmeric powder and some mint juice. Blend the two ingredients into a paste. Then, apply this paste onto the cyst. Leave the paste on for about 15 to 20 minutes. Then, wash the paste off with water. Reapply the paste daily until the cyst disappears.
  • For other options, you can mix turmeric with different household ingredients. A paste can be made of turmeric powder, honey and lemon juice.
  • Another easy option is a paste made out of water, turmeric and honey.

Both of these pastes should be used in the same way as the mint juice and turmeric paste.

3. Castor Oil

Castor oil is one of the most effective treatments for a sebaceous cyst. It helps to heal a cyst that has become swollen or itchy. Unlike other home treatments, it should not be applied directly to the cyst.

  • Instead, soak a clean cloth in castor oil for a couple of minutes.
  • Then, place the cloth directly on the cyst. On top of the cloth, put a hot water bottle or bag.
  • Leave this on the cyst for about 20 to 30 minutes. Over the next half an hour, the castor oil and heat will help to shrink the it and stop the itchiness.

If you want to apply the castor oil directly to the cyst, then you need a cotton swab. Dip the swab into the oil. Then, apply it to the cyst. Like the last treatment, you should use a hot water bottle over the cotton swab. The heat from the water will help to reduce inflammation and reduce the size of the cyst.

  • Another option involves using baking soda with castor oil. Drop a pinch of baking soda into the castor oil. Then, apply the mixture to the cyst. This helps the skin to absorb the fatty acid as it dissolves the cyst.

4. Heat

Heat is another simple way to treat a sebaceous cyst.

Start with a clean washcloth. Get the washcloth wet in hot water. Then, make sure that it is not hot. If it is a comfortable temperature, apply the washcloth to the cyst for about 20 to 30 minutes. The cyst can be treated by this method three or four times a day. Instead of a warm washcloth, you can also use a heating pad or hot water bottle placed over a damp towel.

It is important to use heat and moisture at the same time. Together, these two factors will help to soothe the lump. They will boost the circulation to the area so that the healing process is faster. If the cyst is caused by an infection, heat and moisture can bring out the infection within five to seven days. To keep your skin from being harmed, make sure that you do not use water that is warmer than your normal shower or bath.

Sometimes, the lump will start to drain pus. If this happens, put a bandage on the cyst so that the pus does not spread around the skin. This bandage should be changed at least once a day. If there is a large amount of pus, then go to a doctor. You should also go to the doctor if the cyst becomes red or painful because this could be a sign of an infection.

5. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is known for its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It is safe enough to apply directly to the skin.

One treatment option involves spreading a layer of tea tree oil onto the cyst. This kills any bacteria present. It only takes two or three drops to be effective. You can also blend tea tree oil and a carrier oil in a 1:9 ratio. This mixture can be used three times a week. To make sure the tea tree oil has time to work, cover it with a bandage.

If the cyst is caught early, natural remedies at home can be used to treat it. When the cyst is allowed to become inflamed, professional medical care may be needed. Doctors may drain the cyst or use a steroid drug to reduce the swelling. Other than inflamed or infected cysts, many sebaceous cysts can be treated safely at home.
