Organic Citrus Honey A Healthier Choice
We had previously discussed pollen and honey and their health benefits and I like to continue today on this venture with some ways you can add honey to your diet to replace artificial sweetener and high fructose corn syrup. One recipe that I found to be so tasty, healthy and add paza to your diet is “Organic Citrus Honey!” Start your morning the healthy and organic way without the sugary conventional syrups. You and your family will reap the health benefits for years to come.
You can top your whole wheat or a great gluten-free coconut pancake, waffle, french toast recipe or use it for whatever suits your fancy. Be creative and let your imagination guide you.
Some Important Facts About HFCS:
- HFCS is loaded with calories and toxic ingredients.
- HFCS causes so much damage to your body
- Did you know that HFCS has been linked to diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome not to mention the pesticide laden corn that it is made from.
- The truth is corn is highly toxic loaded with GMO’s.
I found this zesty and refreshing recipe a great alternative to the common sugary syrups!
- 1 strip organic (1″ x 1/2″) Orange rind
- 1 strip organic (1″ x 1/2″) Lemon rind
- 1 tablespoon fresh Organic Orange juice
- 2 teaspoons fresh Organic Lemon juice
- 1 cup Organic Honey
Directions — In a small saucepan, combine orange rind, lemon rind, orange juice, and lemon juice. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Remove from the heat and strain through a fine sieve; discard the rinds.
In a separate pan, heat the honey until just warm. Stir the juice into the warmed honey and serve immediately.
This makes about 1 cup, but if you want to triple or double the recipe and keep it fresh — just store it in a capped glass jar in the refrigerator and all you have to do is reheat in a saucepan. It will last up to 2 weeks.
This recipe goes far beyond the benefits of the honey. Citrus zest is full of compounds that detoxifies the body and helps fight cancer. If fact some research has shown that the rind has as much health benefits if not more than the fruit itself.
Citrus peels have benefits such as high levels of vitamin C, loaded with antioxidants, can help prevent diabetes, lower your risk of heart disease and are just plain good for you. So enjoy the healthful honey and the zesty citrus taste while you improve your health. The kids will love this and you don’t have to tell them that its good for them – that can be just between you and me!
