  1. Hi Marla,
This blog post should be read by all families. You have concisely summarized the most important issues that families should consider for a green and healthy household: “The choices we make every day affects our health, our family’s health, and our planet’s…We have the power to control and to make smart choices that can positively impact every thing and everyone around us — from where you live, to what you products you buy, the food we eat, what we in put in and on our bodies.” Thank you for sharing these vital principles and links to relevant resources with us at the Healthy Happy Green and Natural Party! I am pinning and sharing!

  3. Great information! I am curious though what you mean by “Seed and processed soy products.” I know that processed soy foods (like fake meats and protein bars) are not so healthy, but what kind of “seed” do you mean?

I recently wrote reviews of many green cleaners evaluating some that were new to me compared to the many others I’ve tried over the past 18 years. It’s great that green cleaners are available in more stores than they used to be and in several competing brands, but that also makes it confusing to decide what to buy, so I’m hoping my experience can be helpful to people who are just getting started.

    1. Hi Becca,
Grains, beans, nuts and seeds are all seeds. http://www.diagnosisdiet.com/food/grains-beans-nuts-and-seeds/ Seed products and soy products I consider part of the protein and legume family. Beans are one that have health risks – Read http://wellnessmama.com/2029/are-beans-healthy/

Other seed products such as salad oils contain sunflower seed oil, soy, peanut oil, etc. Sesame seeds, tree nuts, which most are genetically modified, filled with pesticides, and many toxins.

Thanks for the information on green cleaners. It very confusing to know what is actually good or not – that is why I use mostly DIY cleaners that I know what is in them. It cost a lot less and you don’t have to worry about greenwashing, and you actually know the ingredients is safe.

Thanks for reading my article and questioning when your not sure. Have a healthy happy blessed Memorial Day weekend! Marla

  4. So, many individuals do not realize that their food is not the only unhealthy thing in their house. A friend of mine came to visit with her one year old and was going for the cabinet under the sink where all my cleaning supplies are. At first I panicked and then thought there is nothing under that can hurt him, that was a good feeling. Followed this post from the Let’s Get Real party.

    1. Hi Joyce,
Thanks for reading my article and commenting. Hope you are well and it really is a nice feeling to know that there is nothing in your house that is poison. It a shame that more people don’t clean up all the toxic chemicals from their kitchen cabinets and cleaning products so they can be safe and healthy.

  5. This was a well written article. Yes you are right we make choices each and every day that effect the well being of our health as well as the health of other members of our families. Some people are unaware of the harm in using mainstream cleaning supplies etc…this is a good reference point for people. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Alison,
Thank you for reading my article and commenting. It does amaze me at how unaware many people are about what they eat and the products they use and how toxic they are to their bodies and the environment. Have a healthy happy Memorial Day weekend! Marla

I love that you are talking about this and teaching Moms some of the dangers that are in our cleaning products, in our food system and in our gardens.

With a little learning, we can be so much healthier and, like you said, teach our children a better and healthier way of life.

    1. Hi Kim,
Thank you for reading my article and commenting. I believe it is so important that Mom’s teach their children healthy habits and that they are aware of the many health risks of toxins in our environment and how to avoid them. Have a healthy happy day!

Would love to know your thoughts!
