7 Surprising Items that are Toxic To Your Skin & Alternative Solutions

When it comes to skin care, what you avoid can be just as important as what you use. That’s because there are dangerous chemicals in many common household products.  Take a look at some of the labels on your cleaning products and see the chemicals that are listed, but there are alternative solutions and great substitutes to chemical based cleaners. In fact, substances as ordinary as sunscreen or laundry detergent can sometimes be to blame for irritation. This is why it’s so important to learn about these dangerous chemicals and where they’re found, so you can take steps to minimize your exposure.

7 toxic products to the skin

Consider a few of the potential benefits that come from swapping out toxic household items: Certain products, such as some cosmetics, contain oils or waxes that end up clogging pores and causing breakouts. When you stop using them, your skin may improve. If you’re one of the people who has allergies to dyes and fragrances that are often used in traditional laundry detergent, you may see great results from discontinuing use of that product. Removing the irritant could relieve a rash or other issues related to your allergy.  Find out more about the toxin ingredients in laundry detergents, some healthier choices and DIY recipes.

There are also a variety of toxic substances that can damage your immune system or increase your antibiotic resistance, thereby hurting your body’s ability to heal itself.  To give you a couple examples, antibacterial soap or nail polish with formaldehyde are both potentially harmful. For a healthier and greener alternative and a DIY recipe please check out antibacterial soap and more reasons why you need to find safer alternatives.

Because what you put on your skin goes into your body, it’s incredibly important to think about what you’re using. Just because something is available in the modern marketplace doesn’t mean it’s a great choice for your health.
