3 Tips to Make Organic Farming Easier

Organic farming has gotten much fame and familiarity over the last decade. This is because organic farming has become easier, cost-effective and a reliable source for health maintenance. Most of the people have realized that prevention is in fact better than treatment. According to research, there has been an increase in the sale of organic products by 10% since the last two years. Interestingly, you do not always have to purchase organic products; how about harvesting them?

Organic farms can be made in your backyards and even in your already prepared gardens. Organic products are a healthier alternate to processed foods, harvested crops using chemical pesticides, among other eatery available in the market. The first step is to check the fertility of the soil in your backyard. You can purchase organic soil, organic fertilizers and some heirloom seeds for growing your favorite vegetables, herbs or fruits.

Once your farm is ready and you feel you can maintain it with your favorite produce, here’s how organic gardening and farming can be even easier:

1. Check and Upgrade the Soil

It is important to personally keep a check on the soil and produce that is harvested in your organic farm. You might have to check each plant individually. Instead of ruining the plants trying to save your shoes, try getting some work boots that have been specifically designed for entering soil without damaging or eroding the upper layer. If you’re looking for some good work boots, check this out to find out more.

Once you’ve started checking the harvest on a regular basis, you will develop an understanding of the time and amount of nutrients required to grow your relevant produce. You will be able to keep a check on the quantity of water, pesticides and growth rate.

2. Invest in Organic Pesticides

While a lot of farmers recommend using natural ingredients such as mineral oils and salt sprays, it is always better to work with organic pesticides that are available in the market. These pesticides are made with natural products and are sufficient to ensure proper growth of your produce.

Using household ingredients might not always work to your advantage and you may end up losing your whole garden. Therefore, it is always better to invest in organic pesticides that have been manufactured.

Organic pesticides are made of less intense and extreme chemicals. They have rather neutral ingredients such as soap, lime sulfur and hydrogen peroxide. The idea is to keep minimal chemical invasion and enjoy natural growth.

3. Grow Easier Products Initially

Despite our need to grow all our favorite fruits and vegetables organically in our own backyards, it is downright impossible to do so. Every produce requires a unique soil and weather treatment to be prepared. There are a few products that can be grown with less hectic monitoring and intense conditions.

Some of the easy to grow organic products include:

  • Mushrooms
  • Mint
  • Garlic
  • Basil
  • Carrots
  • Peppers
  • Tomatoes

These items do not require specific pesticides, very specific weather conditions or even constant monitoring. You can simply let them grow on their own and check in a day or two to assess their progression.

While the mentioned items may not be your favorite organic produce, these are certainly less frustrating and work-intensive to grow. It’s a good activity to grow them initially and once you get the hang of organic farming and gardening, you can move on to other products you like.
