Back to school 3

Summer is an old news and we are approaching to fall and it’s time to start thinking about going to school campus all warmed up and healthy. So, how can you make sure your kids are healthy to go back to school without the fear of catching a weather intuitive diseases.

Don’t worry, I know being a parent you try quite hard to keep your kids healthy. But in all the hustle and bustle of every day life, there are certain things that just might miss.

Dr. Ruben Espinoza, a pediatrician, gives us some tips on keeping your kids healthy.
It is important to make sure that your child is well-checked prior to starting the school year. It may also include taking note of their physical requirements.

Tips For Keeping Your Child Healthy:

1. Washing Hands often and thoroughly.

Defense Body Cleansing Wipes With Tea Tree Oil
It sounds quite clichéd, but according to Dr. Espinoza it is highly important. Tuck Defensesoap Body Cleansing tea tree oil wipes in your child’s lunch box and backpack. It your child does not always wash their hands as they should (most kids don’t) then this is the perfect solution to ensure the wipes kill all the bacteria on hands.

When they get back home from school, make sure that they wash hands with a safe, healthy and natural antibacterial soap for at least 30 seconds.

2. Lice Prevention
Sounds weird though, but in kids this problem is still an issue. According to Dr.Espinoza, there is currently a lice epidemic. This is always a big problem when the school year starts and there are some easy ways to prevent it.

  • Use shampoos that repel lice. Use natural shampoos and conditioners that contain tea tree oil, peppermint or eucalyptus, lavender, and rosemary oil. They are a natural lice deteriorate since they hate the smell so these herbs.
  • Tie your child’s hair neatly and soak combs, brushes, hair clips and headbands in hot water for ten minutes everyday to make sure any risk of spreading lice.
  • Ask your child not to borrow friends’ helmet, hat, brush or comb.
  • Sharing towels is also one of the reasons for lice spread, give your child a separate towel to use.

3. Fever
If your kid is healthy, fever is usually not very serious, it goes in some time. But, if it heads close to 102 degrees, you may need to call your pediatrician or health care provider, since it can cause discomfort to the child and may lead to problems such as dehydration. Though, it is frightening when your kid gets fever, but fever itself does not cause any harm, but actually can be a good thing according to Dr. Espinoza—it’s often the body’s way of fighting infections.

4. Pink Eye
In this weather, the viral and bacterial infection in eyes is very common and spread very easily. Since, there is no medical treatment of pinkeye viral infection, preventing its spread is important.

Poor hand-washing is the main reason for the spread of this viral infection. Other causes include sharing of things, such as washcloth or towel, with a person who has pinkeye. So you need to take care of things your kids share and keep a check on if he/she washes his/her hands carefully and when needed.

5. Nutrition
A number of studies have demonstrated that children who eat breakfast regularly are able to:

  • Concentrate better
  • Solve problems more easily and perform better in studies than kids who don’t eat breakfast.

Healthy, nutritious meals are important. You must use the new school year as an opportunity to rethink and re-energize your child’s nutrition. A healthy breakfast and nutritious lunch provides your child with fuel he/she needs to stay focused all throughout the day.

If your child is too choosy about food, you must know the grocery or health food stores are now filled with healthier version of chips and other snacks or try making your own kid approved snacks. Encourage your child to choose healthier foods like fruits, vegetables and yogurt instead of burger, pizza or taco from the lunch menu in the school.

I know the task is not simple, but following the these steps may help you avoid some bigger health issues and help your child’s be healthy, productive, and happy through the school year.
