8 Environmentally-Friendly, Money Saving Winter Tips to Follow

There are many ways to keep your house warm during the winter. But why not save some money, protect the environment, and also stay warm and cozy while you’re enjoying the first snow of the year?

You can achieve all these things with so little effort. All you need to do is to try an eco-friendly approach for the winter homesteading.

environmentally-friendly tips to save you money

Here are 8 tips that will prove you how simple it is to take care of our planet while keeping ourselves warm.

1. Wear More Layers

We need to accept that the summer is long gone along with its hot temperatures. As well, shorts and t-shirts must be replaced with long jeans and cozy sweaters. Trying to keep up with the summer temperatures in the winter is just a waste of money and energy that could be simply avoided if you dress appropriately.

2. Use a Programmable Thermostat

A programmable smart thermostat may be the best invention that can help anyone save the energy and cut all the waste. While it will help you set and maintain the desired temperature in the house, it will let you program its functionality according to your schedule.

For instance, you can set it to start functioning with a half an hour before you get home, so you’ll save money while always coming home to a lovely atmosphere.

3. Exercise

Are you still cold while the heater is on? Well, exercising is the best way to warm up your body. Sometimes, we’re feeling cold because our blood flow is very slow and not because the house is not warm enough.

All you need to do is to improve your blood flow by going for a run for 10-15 minutes and you’ll be all warmed-up and still protect the environment at the same time.

4. Use Area Rugs

A wooden floor is a really nice touch in one’s house, but during the cold season, it will not come in handy to preserve the temperature. As Jane Davis, HR manager at Brill Assignment, stated, “Placing rugs in the house during the winter is one of the best and cheap ways to keep your house warm.” Make sure they are made from natural materials and fibers to make a truly eco-friendly living space.

5. Keep the Unused Rooms Closed

If there are any rooms in your house that you don’t really use or spend time in, why waste energy to warm them up too? Just close the door and turn off the heat. You can warm them up only when you need them, it won’t take long anyway.

6. Maintain the Humidity

The more humid the air is in the house the more heat will be preserved in the house. It’s a fact, humid air is much warmer than dry air. A great, handy, and healthy way to keep the air humid in the house is to cook more often. Cooked meals are hot meals that will warm us from the inside out.

7. Close the Curtains

During the winter season, closed curtains really make the difference, as they do in the summer too.

As Carter White, the HR manager at Scholar Advisor, stated, “Curtains are great assets in one’s house. During the summer, they help us keep the house chilly by keeping the sun rays away, while during the winter it adds another layer that the cold needs to trespass.”

8. Get a Warm Blanket

What would winter be without a cozy and fluffy blanket to roll up in while drinking your favorite tea and reading your favorite book? With a warm blanket by your side in the chillier days of winter, you can protect the environment without having to make a sacrifice. The choice is all yours.

Conclusion

There are a lot of ways to stay warm during the cold season without harming the environment. These 8 tips are only a few handy things anyone can do for the health of our wonderful planet. As well, while you’ll be eco-friendlier, you might save some money along the way too, so it will be a win-win for everyone.
