Ask any plant if they prefer organic,or synthetic fertilizers, and you’ll realize that they would prefer organic over synthetic – just as you would prefer fresh produce without synthetic toxic chemicals and poison in it. Now I don’t think your actually going to have a plant talk back to you but they will answer you by how they grow and thrive. To a plant, nutrients are nutrients but some are much tastier and healthier than others and just like you they like to know that they are eating healthier foods. If you wish to reduce your carbon footprint, and live a greener life, the lasting benefits of organic fertilizers outweigh the benefits of synthetic fertilizers every time and your plants will thank you.
All fertilizers contain three key nutrients: nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. The three numbers on a fertilizer bag, such as 21-7-7 or 10-10-10, represent the balance of these nutrients in the fertilizer.
In organic fertilizers nitrogen usually comes from:
- Fish meal
- Blood meal
- Alfalfa meal
- Cottonseed meal
Phosphorus from:
- Bone meal
- Or Rock phosphate.
And potassium comes from:
- Kelp meal
- Granite meal
- Greensand.
Can synthetic fertilizer fill your containers with new blossoms, or produce you the biggest produce and lushest greenest lawn in the neighborhood, Yes it can for a while, but evidently your lawn will become sick as you would if you consume synthetic processed foods or chemicals? So for your plant’s sake and the soil to stay healthy use organic, greener and natural fertilizer. Another good reason to use organic fertilizers it is environmentally-friendly and good for the planet. Make sure you’re conscious about what’s happening to the planet and your carbon footprint that you’re leaving behind for the next generation.
Remember what goes in the dirt goes on the table and in your body!

That’s awesome, Marla! Way to go! I personally always use natural/organic fertilizers myself and have heard great things about seaweed but never tried it.
Hi Adrienne,
If you have any way to get seaweed is sure is a great natural organic fertilizer. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a healthy happy & blessed day!
I have always used natural fertilisers and have just collected a trailer load of horse poop that will hopefully give me some great veggies next year. I also make things like nettle brew and if feasible collect seaweed. #GoingGreenLinky
HI Rosie,
Natural or organic fertilizers are the only way to go as far as I am concerned. Horse poop is great and I know the seaweed is a wonderful fertilizer. I hope you have a bumper crop next year. Have a great day!
