7 Reasons Why You Should Get Plenty Of Vitamin C

Vitamin C

Today my friends I would like to discuss one of the most beneficial vitamins and that is “C”. It has so many health benefits that most people are not aware of.  Normally we consider Vitamin C as helping with the common cold, but there is so much more that this amazing nutrient can do for the body. Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is necessary for the growth, development and repair of all body tissues but is not produced by the body. I am going to educate you on these health benefits and give you the best information I can. So pull up a chair, put your feet up, set back and relax while you learn about Vitamin C.

According to experts Vitamin C is one of the safest and most effective nutrients. A recent study published in Seminars in Preventive and Alternative Medicine that looked at over 100 studies over 10 years revealed a growing list of benefits of vitamin C.

“Vitamin C has received a great deal of attention, and with good reason. Higher blood levels of vitamin C may be the ideal nutrition marker for overall health,” says study researcher Mark Moyad, MD, MPH, of the University of Michigan. “The more we study vitamin C, the better our understanding of how diverse it is in protecting our health, from cardiovascular, cancer, stroke, eye health and immunity to living longer.”

Most of the studies Moyad and his colleagues examined used 500 daily milligrams of vitamin C to achieve health results. That’s higher than the RDA of 75-90.

1. An Antioxidant:

Vitamin C is an important antioxidant that helps the body deal with oxidation stress from free radicals. Free radicals form as a result of environmental pollution, toxic chemicals, cigarette smoke, and taking medications that our body are exposed to daily from the air we breathe to the foods we eat and from normal metabolism within our bodies.  Free radicals damage and destroy leaving our bodies vulnerable to diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and arthritis. Vitamin C also is a great antidote for neutralizing free radicals than will cause premature aging.

2. Helps Absorb Iron:

The types of iron we find in many foods are not easily absorbed so Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron that we need to stay healthy.

3. Reduces Stress:

We need all the help we can get in our busy and sometimes overwhelming lifestyles that we live. According to–“A recent meta-analysis showed vitamin C was beneficial to individuals whose immune system was weakened due to stress — a condition which is very common in our society,” says Moyad. And, he adds, “because vitamin C is one of the nutrients sensitive to stress, and is the first nutrient to be depleted in alcoholics, smokers, and obese individuals, it makes it an ideal marker for overall health.”

4. Immunity:

Not only is vitamin C a well-known component of your immune system, it is also necessary for collagen, the main structural protein found in connective tissue. A healthy dose of vitamin C will protect your body from infection and works with other nutrients to enhance your health by strengthening your bones, teeth, muscles, cartilages, skin, as well as quicken the body’s ability to repair wounds. Along with its immune functions that fight against bacteria, viruses, and infection, vitamin C also serves as an affective antihistamine that will lessen the unpleasant effects of the common cold.  It is very beneficial for allergy control and relief.

5. Helps with Collagen:

Collagen is an essential substance for the body and abnormal functioning of collagen can produce; Aging, Muscular Pain, Gout, Rheumatic Fever, Rheumatoid arthritis, Colitis, and Inflammation of the Blood vessels. Vitamin C has the ability to help the body to regenerate collagen itself quickly and the only way to is through a large intake of Vitamin C.

6. Is Good for the Heart:

Along with lowering your blood pressure, vitamin C ensures proper dilation of blood vessels, which can prevent such diseases as atherosclerosis, high cholesterol, congestive heart failure, and angina pectoris.

7. Cataracts:

The lens of the human eye requires vitamin C to function properly, and a deficiency can lead to cataracts. A higher intake of vitamin C has been shown to fight cataracts by increasing the amount of blood flow to the eye.

Other Important Information:

The best sources of Vitamin C in foods:

Orange Juice and oranges, Grapefruit and grapefruit juice, Strawberries, Kiwi, Sweet Red & Green Peppers, Cantaloupe, Mango, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Fresh tomatoes, Pineapples, Blueberries, Winter Squash. Vitamin C is sensitive to light, air, and heat, so it is best to eat fruits and vegetables raw or minimally cooked in order to retain their full vitamin C content.  By taking Vitamin C with oat bran it is absorbed better into the body which gives you more health benefits.

Vitamin C is not stored in the body so overdose is not a concern. But it’s still important not to exceed the safe upper limit of 2,000 milligrams a day to avoid stomach upset and diarrhea.  It has diuretic effect so it is important to drink plenty of water.

As According to Natural News

When taking a Vitamin C supplement, natural vitamin C complexes are much more potent than the common and less expensive ascorbate forms. However, someone who needs a lot of vitamin C will find that the natural complexes can be cost prohibitive. Mineral ascorbates and ascorbic acid are acceptable forms to take for reaping all of vitamin C’s many health benefits.  Just be sure to look for vitamin C supplements that are non-GMO, as the vast majority of these supplements come from GMO corn.

I hope all this information has been beneficial to you and given you a better understanding of the importance of Vitamin C. Taking a Vitamin C supplement is a good way to start out the new years, since the cold and flu season is in already in full force. Make this one of your New Year’s Resolutions — to make it a healthy and prosperous year for you and your family.
