8 Reasons Why You Should Choose Green Building Materials
All it takes is a bit of effort and planning, and a proper local handyman to help you up a bit, if needed at all. But the most important part of this endeavor should be the choice of green building materials you should use for the home improvement. Why?

1. Green materials use up less energy to be created, it requires less to be shipped to your location, and even lesser to be used.

5. Green materials can make use of renewable energy. There are quite a bit of renewable energy sources today, and people are learning to use them ever so efficiently. One of the ways of using them to the maximum effect is indeed surrounding yourself with green materials. This helps when accumulating solar or thermal energy, and they are a joy for the garden and biomass.
6. Green materials make for a better indoor environmental quality. Your home is safer, and healthier now that you have ridden it of all the polluting standard materials, and it is easier to refresh and keep fresh. Avoid your home becoming a sick building.
7. Green materials take away all the harmful effects of the environment to your life-cycle. This literally does mean a longer lifespan just because you made a smarter choice when renovating your home.

All those chemicals in your cleaners have the nasty effect of leaving behind quite a number of toxins, which should make the surfaces you applied them to untouchable for a while. But green materials reduce or eliminate completely the toxic substances, making for a safer home.
These are just some of the reasons you should use the green building materials. Easier to replace or clean when doing home maintenance, they are also a better choice if you care for nature. When buying them, you stimulate the green material production market which will attract more recyclable materials and that means fewer emissions that add to pollution and climate change. So interesting! I guess I never thought there were many green building materials. How do you know which ones are green and do they have them at a regular home supply house or do you have to go to a specialty store?

To know if they are green you have to do some research and check out the specifics of the products – some will have green certified seals on them. Before I buy any product I normally check it out whatever it is.
Yes there are green products and products like recycled carpet and padding, drywall (many utilize recycled paper and post-industrial gypsum), insulation (recycled cotton, mineral wool), kitchen countertops, glass tiles, steel, and many types of flooring that are Eco-friendly and green – such as bamboo or cork-board flooring. Check out http://www.epa.gov/greenhomes/SmarterMaterialChoices.htm for lots of information about different green materials and what to look for (their are many links to guide you on green products and also check the internet for information on specific information on products.
Even paint that is low or VOC is green and can be bought almost any where – I know we always buy ours at Sherwin Williams, but it has become a fairly common product at most home supply stores. Stains are a little harder to find that are truly green but I have found them on line at a specialty store at http://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/All-Products/Paints-Coatings
Depending on your local area some products are more readily available then others. If you know what you want and are looking for you can buy almost all of these items in stores some might be in specialty stores and other product you should be able to purchase at your Lowe’s or Home Depot or regular building supply store.
