If you’ve been following the news lately, you might know that we are nearing an energy crisis. Okay, the worst case scenario is still ten or twenty years away but if we don’t do something now, it will be here a lot sooner than that. We’ve been told many times by government and environmental officials that we need to do something about your own solo eco footprints. If you still haven’t taken that first step it might be because you think it means a lot of hard work. Actually, it doesn’t have to be like that at all. Instead, you can make little changes that will be easy or big ones that are still simple to arrange.
Look At Your Energy Provider
Your first step is to check your energy rates. Are they providing you the best deal on the market for heating and lighting your home? If the answer is no, why not look for a company offering 100 percent renewable energy. You’ll find the costs are a lot cheaper and you’ll immediately be helping the environment. In fact, if you do get an energy company that uses one hundred percent renewable power, you don’t have to worry about much else. It’s easy to switch to a new energy provider too. The company you choose will happily complete the process for you with no trouble at all.
Get Private Renewable Energy
Of course, it’s also possible that you can be in charge of your own home energy. You can do this by getting solar panels for the home. These are available for installation from businesses like Sandbar Solar. Although the initial fixed cost of installation can be hard to manage, it will pay for itself in just a few years. Just think about all the summers where you won’t be paying anything for hearings because you’ll be making your own energy.
Lights Off, Plugs Off
Make sure that you are not carelessly wasting energy. Ask yourself whether you really need the lights on in your home. Or, is it bright enough without them? You may also want to consider the possibility of turn off appliances when they are not in use. However, we do suggest that you draw the line at the fridge and freezer. A lot of people switch their white goods off at night switching them back on through the day. By doing this, the food stays cool while the door remains closed. While this is dangerous because food can defrost and refrost, it is also quite pointless. The energy it takes to warm up both the fridge and the freezer each day will more than make up for what you save by switching them off.
Working With Water
Finally, careful how much water you use in the home. You may not realize it now, but water will one day be a scarce resource. You should try to get used to using as little as possible. This does not mean that you shouldn’t wash regularly. Rather, that there are ways that we easily waste water. A classic example would be not to leave the tap running while brushing your teeth. Not doing this could save you nearly 25 percent on your water bill!
