DIY Green Beauty For Your Skin And Hair From Your Grocery List!

"DIY Green Beauty Foods"Green beauty is so important to living a healthy lifestyle but many of us have been conditioned to believe that only expensive products with posh logo’s on the label can properly cleanse, nourish, and revitalize our skin. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Skin care and hair care should be food for your skin and body that is produced naturally and organically.

I have noticed that many times people who pick the most expensive product in a department store have no idea what is in the product or even if it contains contaminants and harmful ingredients. Just as people who choose their food by reading labels carefully, making most of their food from scratch, choosing organic or local harvest foods, no processed foods or GMO’s;  are the ones that will choose their cosmetics with care and many times make them from scratch. You don’t have to worry about green-washing or what hidden ingredients might be lurking in your products. The way you take care of your skin tells the world a lot about what you eat.

When you do your regular grocery shopping here are some of the most common foods and two drugstore staples that can be used for homemade cosmetics that you should consider purchasing. These foods should be added to your menu to help keep your body strong and healthy but also keep your skin and hair strong, shiny, lustrous, and healthy.

Avocado — A ready-made, preservative-free natural remedy for dry skin, split hair ends, and rough cuticle. Avocados have remarkable health benefits for the skin and hair.  Avocados are loaded with healthy fats and phytonutrients, essential oils and B complex vitamins that are so good for your skin.

Baking soda — Makes a great face and body scrub when mixed with olive oil  or other oil; can be used as grainy exfoliating filler for your more intricate masks and scrub. Can add to bath water to soothe and soften your skin.

Chamomile Tea — This can be used as a toner, hair rinse for blonde hair, and a general purpose calming skin and hair mist.  Chamomile tea has many benefits for you skin and hair with its amazing healing, cleansing, and moisturizing properties.

Cocoa — Great face mask and hair rinse for darker hair.

Coffee — Coffee grounds from  your coffee filter can be used as a body scrub.  Brew a pot of very strong coffee and then let it cool – is an excellent hair rinse for dark hair.

Corn Flour — Soothes, tightens and mild exfoliating agent for masks and scrubs.

Eggs — Use as a nourishing conditioner by massaging into your hair. Egg whites are a traditional face lifting remedy.

Epsom Salt  Add to your bath water for a relaxing bath. Will soothe sore muscles and itchy skin.

Green Tea — An excellent all-purpose skin toner, face mask, and scrub filler, eye soother, and a great baby rinse if your little one suffers from eczema. Green tea has many health benefits.

Honey — Among raw honey’s many attributes are its antibacterial powers which can be used for a great soothing face mask, and is very useful for dandruff. Just add some honey to your shampoo.

Lemons — Lemon juice makes a great and gorgeous skin whitener and hair lightener. Use the lemons rinds to add a soothing scent to your bath water.  Squeeze some oil from the rind and see what magic it can preform on acne blemishes.

Milk of Magnesia — A magic moisturizer for face, body, and especially the feet. When you have been sleep deprived or life has dealt you too much stress use plain variety without added sugar or flavors. Apply with a cotton ball after you have removed makeup with facial oil or soap. Leave the milk of magnesia on for a few minutes and rinse off.

Milk (Raw or Organic) — After cleansing – with a cotton wool ball use it to wipe your face and leave it on for a mild exfoliation – as the milk sours it gives your skin a natural, healthy glow.

Or — use to wipe eye make up off and refresh the skin then apply your regular moisturizer.

Add it to your bath water for touchable, baby soft skin.  Use raw milk to rinse your hair and combat dryness plus it will add volume to your hair.

Vegetable Oil — This is a very important beauty ingredient and should be on top of your list. Vegetables oils that are skin friendly such as coconut oil (one of my favorite), grape seed, rice bran, hemp, castor seed, jojoba (another favorites), sesame oils, and extra virgin organic olive oil. These can be added to face creams, as moisturizers, hair conditioners, use as a massage oil, bath oil, or body and face scrub.

To help remove waterproof makeup or mineral makeup – take a cotton wool ball and saturate with organic extra virgin olive oil or grape seed oil and gently wipe off the mascara and eye shadows. Not only will it remove the makeup but it will help to moisturize your eyes and reduce the fines lines.

Sea Salt —  Superb face and body exfoliating agent. Great for instant manicures. Make sure you buy extra fine sea salt so it doesn’t damage your skin.

Sugar (Organic) — Fine brown sugar or organic white sugar can be use as a face and body scrub.

Oat Bran and Oatmeal — Works great for body scrubs, face masks, and bath pouches. For a wonderful gentle buffing cleanser — apply plain oatmeal with a few tablespoons of hot water to soften the oatmeal and leave on for 15 minutes to an hour or until it hardens and your ready to rinse off with warm water and add your regular moisturizer.

Tomatoes — Smooth and revive tired skin and hair, helps it look shiny from sun and weather or chemical treatment damage.

Yogurt — Exfoliating face mask and works very well to combat dry, itchy scalp. Contains mildly exfoliating lactic acid that makes an excellent antibacterial cleanser.

These ingredients are some of the most common ingredients that you need to make you own products or just apply by themselves for true green and organic beauty.

You can buy many very good quality commercial organic and truly natural products that are safe and effective. Just check labels very carefully and do your research on the manufactures.
