Toxic Chemicals In Lipstick & The Health Risks
Today my friends, I would like to talk about lipstick, lip gloss and some very important information about the serious consequences and risk to your health. So before you put on that lip color and pucker up to kiss you boyfriend or significant other, make sure it is not the kiss of poison! There are some facts about lipstick that you should consider. What is the kiss of poison? It is the toxic chemicals, such as preservatives, lead, other heavy metals and dyes that are added to lipstick. Learn why you should be using organic cosmetics.
After researching thoroughly, I found some very important facts that you need to be aware of. Although coloring your lips is not a new concept and it is true that some kind lipstick or color for the lips as been used for over 5000 years. The ancient Egyptian used henna to color their lips which was thought to enhance their beauty. In recent times lipsticks have been closely examined by many health watchers. Lipsticks are often eaten away by the user some it is imperative that health regulators take a closer look at the ingredients that go in to the lipstick. Experts have found that many famous and expensive lipstick brands contain unacceptably highly and dangerous levels of lead.
Scientists believe that lead causes many health problems, including reproductive dysfunction. It has been estimated that in her lifetime a woman ingests up to 4 pounds of lipstick. Of course the higher the lead content, the greater the chance of causing cancer. Lead is not the only health risk and danger to us— so read further to learn some important facts that just might make you take a closer look at what you are putting on your lips and hopefully make some better choices.
Some Important Facts: Claims of trace amounts of lead in lipstick have been proven true in a variety of research settings. According to SafeCosmetics.org, “In October 2007, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics tested 33 popular brands of lipsticks at an independent lab for lead content. The results: 61 percent of lipsticks contained lead, with levels ranging 0.69 parts per million.”
Recent research indicates that the chemicals in lipsticks actually interfere with the healthy development of breast tissue leading to breast cancer. According to lead researcher Dr Jose Russo of the Fox Chase Cancer Centre in America, (Click here) neonatal or prepubertal exposure to butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) can induce modifications in the gene expression of the mammary tissue. He says “BBP is in the environment, so a constant exposure via inhalation and digestive tract can reach many different organs including the breast.” Click here to see the study. Not all the ingredients that go into making the product are toxic. Some of the products that are non-toxic are beeswax, plant extracts and synthetic iron-oxide and as also natural ingredients as aloe vera, shea butter.
My suggestion is definitely do not use any lipstick that has perfumes, flavoring, synthetic dyes or preservation’s – that all means toxic and dangerous chemicals have been added –the best choice is organic lipstick and organic cosmetics or brand that is made from natural beeswax, not synthetic wax, organic ingredients, and natural coloring. You can also make you own with beeswax, add natural organic food color or blush, and if flavoring is important add a natural organic essence of your choice. So go ahead smile, pucker up and give your husband or boyfriend a great big kiss, but make sure it is not the kiss of poison! Give him a organic kiss! You will both be happier and healthier.
