Making Homemade Sauerkraut: Harvest your Health With Autumn’s Beauty
Saying good-bye to Summer and Hello to Autumn is a bitter-sweet time of the year. Goodbye to the glowing summer sunsets, summer time swimming, camping, and all those fun summer picnics, the fresh tomatoes, tasty greens such as lettuce and spinach, watermelon, cautoloupe, and beautiful summer flowers gardens (see my organic garden! But we are also saying hello to Autumn’s harvest of healthy superfoods and the beauty that Nature provides us. One of those superfoods is cabbage which means it time to make homemade sauerkraut.
Beautiful late summer sunset from window!
Another night of Nature’s beauty!
But there is no need to despair because a whole season of brilliant color and healthy, tasty produce and foods are ready for picking. Butternut squash, cabbage, pumpkins, apples, pears and one of my favorite foods – sweet potatoes. These amazing superfoods can be easily be found in your local farmers market or local farmer if your don’t have your own organic garden.
Fall flowers such as Mums, Aster’s, (mind haven’t bloomed yet) tall Sedum are blooming with brilliant color.
Tall Sedum slowly changing to brilliant ruby-red!
Autumn is the time that we make homemade sauerkraut(check out recipe and health benefits) filled with a wealth of health for your whole body.

We will let the sauerkraut ferment for several weeks until it is at the perfect taste and then preserve it by canning so we can enjoy the wonderful taste and health benefits throughout the winter.
Autumn is a time to harvest your health with organic apples Check out the health benefits and Why Organic Apples is considered a Superstar fruit and some great recipes!

I will transplant those beautiful organically grown Mums that I bought from a local nursery that are currently setting on my front porch (picture at the top of page) after a few weeks and plant them in my garden to rebloom next year. Hopefully they will.
I hope you enjoyed your summer and are ready for all the fall festivities that many communities celebrate with apple, pumpkin and Fall Festival’s. Enjoy the Autumn harvest and bounty of delicious and healthy foods that Nature provides us through Autumn and every season. Take the time to enjoy the majestic show that Nature is getting ready to provide with the vivid coloring of the leaves and the natural change of the seasons. Make sure you do it the organic, healthy and green way and honor our planet!

Lover you beautiful photos, Marla! And how fun to see you and hubby working so hard together 🙂 I have to be fair and say that I haven’t given sauerkraut a fair try. I haven’t had it since I was a kid and the experience wasn’t good but I need to have another go at it. The health benefits are definitely worth it. Great post and fun read !
HI Robyn,
Once you learn how to make sauerkraut it is really not hard and its well worth it. We have a good time making and enjoy it throughout the winter both the taste and health benefits. Have a healthy happy blessed weekend. Marla
Beautiful photos of sunset! I love kraut so much and it’s a staple in our home. I need to start making my own though. You make it look so simple. I’m going to give it a try.
Hi Emily,
I’m glad you like the photos – the sunsets were so beautiful I had to take pictures and wanted to share them. The sauerkraut really in not hard once you done it. Good luck trying it – I’m sure you’ll enjoy taste of homemade. Try to eat some of it raw because you get so many probiotics (that are killed when heated) that are so good for the digestive system. Have a healthy happy blessed day!
