Given that they’re located at the back of your throat, tonsil stones aren’t always the easiest things to get out. In most cases you’ll just be poking and prodding around you tonsils to no effect, trying to find where it hurts the most. This often never works and only results in stressing yourself out.
Well you’ll be glad to know that there is a better way to do things. In this article I’ve outlined some of the most effective organic solutions and home remedies for tonsil stone removal so that you never have to go through this Charade ever again.
Gargling an Organic Antibacterial Mouthwash
If you’re tonsil stones aren’t “stuck” in place but just feel a little difficult to get to, then this solution will be suited to you. As it’s easy for the liquid to reach the back of your throat, this solution is perfect for stones found behind or under your tonsils.
When choosing a solution to gargle, you have two options: use salt water or apple cider vinegar. Both have detoxifying effects (so they’ll be able to clean your tonsils as well as shake out the stones) and promote other oral health benefits so it’s up to you which you choose.
Apple cider vinegar has been shown to reduce swelling so if you’re experiencing swollen tonsils or a sore throat, then it might be the best option for you.
You would use both in the same way:
- Add a tablespoon of ACV or salt
- With a 1 full glass of water
Take a sip and begin gargling – while making sure the mixture reaches the back of your throat. After about 15 seconds, spit out the mixture and continue with the rest of the glass.
Chewing on Garlic
Like the salt water and apple cider vinegar, garlic has detoxifying effects. So it’ll be able to fight off bacteria that are found in your tonsils and also help break down the tonsil stones.
For the best results I would chew on raw garlic, as this will release these effects more easily, and do so every day if you’re case of tonsil stones is quite severe. You can consume it with water or within a meal but this will hinder your results.
Citrus Fruits – in particular lime and lemon
You may not realize it yet but your body could be deficient in Vitamin C. If you experience a lot of oral infections, not just tonsil stones, then this could well be the reason.
If you take a serious look at your diet and see this to be true then you might want to try consuming a little more of citrus fruit like lime and lemon. They’re naturally high in Vitamin C so should help you improve your immune system and reduce infection – in this case tonsil stones.
Seeing as you’re going to be consuming lime/lemon and not gargling it, it doesn’t really matter how you take it. Some of the popular ways are adding it to tea or making a lime/lemon flavoured water drink but you can take it however you like – even raw if you’re bold enough.
Oil pulling is gargling an oil (olive, nut, coconut etc.) for a period of 15-20 minutes to try and detoxify the mouth. This has been done for thousands of years and has been shown to be an effective oral health remedy even in recent studies.
Seeing as bad oral health is an indicator of tonsil stones, this remedy could be well worth your time. The act of swirling oil around your mouth should fight off any bad bacteria so it’ll definitely help prevent the tonsil stones, just make sure to try to reach your tonsils.
When you’re just starting off, begin by oil pulling daily for 2 weeks and then twice a week thereafter. As you do so you should see a number of surprising benefits also appear, particularly whitening your teeth.
So there are a few effective organic home remedies for you to try out. They may not work for everyone but there will definitely be one that reduces the amount of tonsil stones you get.
