Organic Strawberries in Pots!

StrawberriesStrawberries are indisputably one of the most delicious and  desirable fruits for many people. No matter what type of strawberries you like best, they are usually inseparable part of many desserts like tarts and cakes. They have definitely been recognized as a compact plant that is easy to grow in pots. Nowadays many people prefer to their grow their own organic strawberries in pots. This is easy to do as long as you are well acquainted with some simple details.

In general, you can plant different types of strawberries – June-bearing, day neutral or ever-bearing. However, when it comes to pots the best types tend to be the day-neutral and ever-bearing ones because they supply you with an excellent and regular harvest from early summer until the beginning of the autumn.

In this article you will receive valuable tips how to appropriately plant your strawberries in a pot without missing some important and helpful moments of this procedure.

Choose the Right Container

The first important thing when it comes to containers is to choose the one that has good drainage. It should have several drainage holes, situated at the bottom of the container or if you prefer, you can choose a container with several holes, throughout its surface.  As far as the size of the pot is concerned, you can choose significantly small one, because the root ball of the strawberries is not big (the depth usually reaches 8 inches).  One tiny detail to be aware of is if the container is smaller, you will need to water it more frequently. A good choice is a sturdy pot from a cement pot manufacturer that will allow your strawberries to grow and thrive.

Choose the Soil for Your Organic Strawberries

The most appropriate type of soil is always the one that is rich in organic matter.  For healthy organic soil you can add peat and compost, and if you want extra growing power add bone meal into the mix to give a good start to your strawberry plants. Another important choice is to pick soil that will hold the water in the best way.

Getting Started for the Planting

The first thing to do is to make a tiny mound on to the surface of the soil and to try to situate the roots over this mound. The roots need to be covered with the soil mix and then watered in an appropriate way. Make sure you place them where your they will get adequate sun — they need to receive above 5-6 hours of full sun. You may also need to rotate the container on a regular basis so that all the parts of the plant gets the required amount of sunlight. We advise you to water the strawberries when you observe that the soil is dry and to pay attention to the fact that soil in the containers has the ability to dry faster than that on the ground.

During the winter, strawberries are more sensitive, due to the lower temperatures so we suggest you move the pots in a warmer place, for instance, in your garage or where the temperatures are moderate to avoid freezing.

Now that your strawberries are ready for eating, provide the required cleaning of the fruit and wash them with a cool water. After that you can enjoy the incomparable taste of your own organic strawberries and use them for making your favorite desserts. You should be convinced that growing strawberries is not a complicated procedure as long as you follow these instructions for the maintenance of your wonderful tasty and healthy strawberries. Even if your home has a limited space, you can always find a place to situate your lovely strawberry pots.
