The Best Non-Toxic Ways to Clean Your Home

Best Non-Toxic Ways To Clean Your HomeYou don’t need to get a full arsenal of weapons for mass disinfection to get your home clean. Harsh cleaning products are efficient and quick when dealing with stains. Their qualities are undeniable, but at what price? Many of these commercial cleaners owe their “super powers” to the ingredients that constitute serious hazards for your health. Plus they are no better in terms of effectiveness than their “going green” alternatives. Another benefit of the non – toxic cleaning solutions is that they are cheaper.

With a few going green natural cleaning ingredients you can keep your house fully sanitized. There many recipes for homemade detergents that you can apply in almost every area of your home. Most of the things you can find in your kitchen cabinet or buy in the nearest shop.

The basics include:

  • Baking soda
  • White distilled vinegar
  • Salt
  • Lemon or Lime juice or any citrus solvent
  • Essential oils
  • Make the solution stronger by adding borax.

There is still the question whether this ingredient is safe. Borax is considered to cause mild skin irritation, similar to the one caused by salt and baking soda. Other than that this product doesn’t expose your health in to any risk.

All – Purpose Cleaner:

Dissolve:

  • ¼ cup of baking soda
  • ½ cup of vinegar

Make the solution stronger by using borax instead of baking soda. Then add 2 litres water. Put it into a proper storage item. You can use it on the bathroom fixtures and appliances. Pour it over a microfiber cloth and rub the stained area.

Carpet and Flooring Cleaner:

To clean the spots from the carpet, mix the quantity of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Apply it directly over the stain. For unintentional spills, first use a clean cloth to dry it. Sprinkle slat over the greasy spots. Coffee and tea stains are easily removed with a sponge dumped in vinegar.

Window Cleaners:

Make the window cleaning a child’s play. Vinegar is a natural acid and works the same way as the commercial cleaning. You can use it directly over the more persistent stains or you can make a water solution. Scrub it with a sponge or get a squeegee for more professional results. To avoid the streaks, go over the windows with a cloth after cleaning them with the vinegar.

Drain Cleaners:

Clogged kitchen and bathroom drains are not unusual. The commercial products incorporate heavy chemical to decompose the waste in the drains. They create volatile fumes that go sprightly into your lungs.

A general drain cleaner:

  • Put ½ cup of salt
  • In 4 (quarts) litres of water and pour in the drains.

If you want stronger solution, replace the salt and water with:

  • ½ cup of baking soda
  • ½ cup of vinegar

First use the soda and sip the vinegar inside the drain. After 15 minutes, run hot water down the drain. Place a couple of lemon slices on the faucet to remove the unpleasant odor.

Air Fresheners:

Refresh the indoor air by using essential oils and vinegar.

Mix:

  • 2 tablespoons of vinegar
  • 15 drops of essential oils (peppermint, lavender, etc)
  • 1 ½ cups of water and put it in spray bottle.

Use when needed.

With only few safe and simple ingredients you can maintain your house cleaned and sanitized.

  4. Hi Marla,
I really enjoyed this post because cleaning my home naturally is one of my main concerns. My husband loves to buy the sale-priced cleaning products at the local discount store, but I am working on him. I keep a large bottle of lemon or orange peel citrus vinegar ‘marinating’ at all time and use that along with baking soda as all-purpose cleaners around the house. .Kudos to you for compiling these sensible, easy to follow non-toxic cleaning tips and recipes and thanks for sharing it with us at the Healthy, Happy, Green and Natural Party Blog Hop. I appreciate it! I’m pinning and sharing this.
