Types of Rehab Treatment Programs!

There are many rehab treatment programs available to anyone who needs to withdraw from their vices. These programs differ in the approach or in the location where the actual treatment will be taking place.

While most treatments start off with slowly removing the substance from the patient’s system, some treatments can be more holistic than others. This means that some programs will not only focus on removing the vice and getting better without it. Some will actually delve into the social, psychological, and spiritual aspects of the patient’s life. To some extent, some programs can even be offered to family members so they can better aid the patient in the recovery stage.

It is important that you or your family members have an idea of what could be the best treatment center for drug addiction for you. In this article, you will be able to see the list of different programs so you can decide which one to get for your loved one.

Types of Rehab Programs Based on Location

1. Residential Treatment

Residential treatment, or inpatient treatment, is a type of rehab program wherein the patient is required to stay inside a facility or community where doctors and psychologists will observe and guide their journey to recovery. While patients can volunteer to stay inside, their long-term stay should be endorsed by the court. Most of the time, patients admitted to residential treatment are the ones who have had cases in court and those who have been suffering from long-term addiction.

Residential treatment lasts for a month’s stay at the very least. However, those who are still unable to recover during this time are required to stay for a longer duration.

2. Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient treatment is much like residential treatment except that the patient doesn’t stay overnight at the facility. This program is very helpful for those who cannot leave work or have important business to attend to. The schedule is usually a few hours in the day, morning or afternoon, or a few hours at night after work hours. A good number of people prefer this setup as it will still allow the patient to continue their jobs; however, because the patient is still exposed to external factors like temptations and the drug per se, full recovery can take a while.

3. Sober Living Treatment

Sober living treatment refers to programs that are usually offered to those who have gone through traditional treatment programs (i.e. residential and outpatient treatments). This program, that was initially called halfway house, allows patients to have a certain degree of freedom. Patients can continue working and going out while following a less strict recovery program.

The goal of sober living houses is to create a community wherein the patient gets to mingle with other patients. There are extra-curricular activities and seminars that patients can join. You can say that sober living treatment programs offer a less formal approach to recovery.

Types of Rehab Programs Based on Approach

 1. Family therapy

Psychologists recognize the importance of the family in terms of developing addiction and recovering from it. Since the family is usually the people the patient interacts with, family therapy is a way of resolving and getting underneath the issues of why the patient became addicted.

Family therapy is also used to harness the family’s connection to motivate the patient to recover. This program also extends proper education of what addiction is to family members.

2. Group therapy

Group therapy involves having a few people like the patient undergo the same treatment. Although treatment programs should be adjusted based on the person, group therapy is often done so that patients can feel more comfortable recovering with people like them. This type of program offers support to each member of the group and it can also be a way for them to create relationships that would be helpful as they go through this journey.

3. Religious therapy

When it comes to taking the religious route, some experts delve into the person’s faith and God’s plan for their lives. There are people who have a strong and deep relationship with God but still can’t recover from addiction on their own. This type of treatment aims to strengthen the connection between the patient and God so that the former can have enough motivation to recover.

4. Holistic therapy

holistic rehab therapy

Taken from its name, holistic therapy does not only focus on removing the addiction to a certain drug or habit. Doctors and professionals look at the wholeness of the person and provide medical care that would reinforce recovery. For example, psychological treatment is needed because of a mental illness. The holistic program will then offer sessions with a psychologist and a psychiatrist if there are medications needed. There can also be medical visits included in the program to look into the overall health of the patient.

Overall, there are many more types of programs for patients and their families alike. Because it’s like a menu of programs, you should be able to determine which one would be the most beneficial and convenient for you.
