At the end of a difficult day, nothing feels better than getting home, kicking off your shoes, and relaxing in a comfortable, inviting bedroom. Unfortunately, if your bedroom is cluttered or dirty, spending time in the room may add to your stress rather than relieving it. It is difficult to relax when you are surrounded by a mess. Keep reading for some helpful tips on how to transform your bedroom into a relaxing space that you love.
1. Turn your bedroom into a guest room for yourself.
When guests visit, you probably don’t ask them to stay in a room that is dirty or cluttered. You should show yourself the same respect. Try preparing your bedroom for yourself the same way you would for a guest. Clean your room, putting away any clutter. Put fresh sheets on the bed and make sure that the floor has been vacuumed. Make sure it has a good mattress and comfortable sheets, like you would for a guest. If you’re looking for inspiration, check out these Denver mattress reviews. It’s the sort of quality bedding you’d have for a guest and should also have for yourself.
By giving yourself the same attention that you would give to your guests, you can improve your chances of sleeping peacefully through the night.
2. Create a spot for your everyday items.
Chances are, there are some items that you keep by your bedside every day. This could include pieces of jewelry, your glasses, lip balm, or other items that you use regularly. To keep your nightstand from getting cluttered, try placing the items in a decorative bowl or tray. This will keep them close at hand without adding clutter to your room.
3. Keep your accessories to a minimum.
Avoid going overboard when decorating your bedroom. It is best to take a minimal approach. Choose a few simple accessories that you love. Clear away any items that you don’t regularly use or that belong in other parts of your home.
4. Store items out of sight.
Instead of keeping your belongings out in the open where you can see them, look for concealed storage solutions. For instance, if you have items that you don’t use on a regular basis, consider storing them in bins or floors underneath your bed.
Instead of going with a traditional nightstand, try looking for a short dresser that you can place next to your bed. This can provide you with extra storage while still providing the same functionality as a nightstand.
5. Address areas where clutter gathers.
Pay attention to how you use your space. Are there any areas where clutter tends to accumulate? If so, try to come up with ways to make those areas neater and more organized. That way, your room is less likely to get messy.
6. Store your reading materials in a basket.
Reading in bed is a great way to relax and unwind. Unfortunately, the books, magazines, and newspapers that you read can add to the clutter in your room. Keeping them contained in a basket is a great way to eliminate clutter while still having them close at hand.
7. Select the right color for your room.
When deciding on a paint color for your room, opt for a calm, soothing shade. Pale blue, soft green, and other mild colors are a good choice. Choose a color that gives you a sense of peace and serenity.
8. Turn off your devices.
Before you go to bed, turn off any electronic devices including cell phones, tablets, and your TV.

Marla,
These are great ideas – it really hits home to think of your own bedroom as a guest room -Also the color is so important too. I redid my home office last year and made it just perfect for me. I painted the walls a soft lime green, got a black and white checked chair and found some yoga type photos that felt good to me. It made a huge difference in the way I felt being in the room. Love all your ideas and am tweeting your post
